Best Valentines Day yet!

My wife, Mrs. Nerd, and I work for the same company and in the same building.   Sometimes this makes life a little awkward.   Well today it provided her with an opportunity to a) try to publicly embarrass me (in a good way) and b) give me the coolest V-Day gift I've ever received.

Unlike most days, we drove into work together.   She needed help carrying the cupcakes she baked for a company luncheon today.  While loading the car with enough sugary confections to kill a diabetic at a glance, I was able to surprise her with her gifts.  I went with the classics: a dozen roses, huge cool balloon, opal earrings and necklace.   She loved all of it.

Mrs Nerd protested "No Fair!  I didn't have time to get you anything but a card and I left that at work!".

I bought her line.  Big Dummy.

Work was going ok.  Busy as usual.   I got a break from meetings.    One of my co-workers, Pattie, called me over and suggested we go get a soda.    I should have been suspicious when my boss Ron chimed in with "I'm coming too.".

We walked into the break room and Mrs Nerd was there talking to three guys in suits.   Dain Bramaged here still didn't catch on.  I went over to say hi, but she acted like she was busy, so I went for my soda.   I turn around, now there are four guys there and one is holding a rose and a card.  It is now that my Captain Obvious powers kick in.   I notice that all of these guys are wearing matching suits and shirts.  Hmmmm.   A crowd is starting to build up and my lovely wife calls me over.

One of the distinguished gentlemen hands me the card and the rose and tells me they are from my wife.   Grinning and snapping pictures she tells me she loves me.

Then the singing starts.  A Barbershop Quartet.   A good one too.

Little do they know that I have been known to carry a tune or three.  I joined in and sang with them!    I missed a few notes here and there and I zigged when they zagged a couple of times, but not bad for someone who hasn't sung seriously in 20 years.

They followed up with a second song.   I called Mrs Nerd over and just listened to this one with her.   Polite applause and handshakes afterward.   They said that I was the only guy they were serenading today and that they enjoyed having me join in.

Mrs Nerd escorted them out.  When she came back, it was with their card.   They invited us to attend one of their practices.  They are part of a full acappella men's chorus that meets in Fort Worth.   They told her I should try out.   Their website:  http://www.texasmillionaires.com/index.htm

I think I will.

Best darn Valentine's Day present I ever got.

I love you, Lorretta.   Happy Valentine's Day.
